The Tyler EDA has used $73,450 in assistance from the Minnesota Redevelopment Grant Program to spur new housing and recreation. The grant application and project coordination were handled by Development Services, Inc.
These grant funds were used to help demolish an old, vacant hospital building in Tyler (pictured), which had become a developing eyesore in the community. The old hospital had changed ownership several times and had fallen into serious disrepair. Removing the building offered several new opportunities:
First, the building site will be redeveloped as public parking for the Tyler Healthcare Center.
Second, relocating the parking to this site will free up land for the phased construction of 32 new town house units.
Third, the new parking area will provide better access to an adjacent city park.
