Hendricks City
Hall and Fire Hall
For years the old city hall and fire hall in Hendricks had been failing to meet the needs of the community.
Office space was cramped and out of date. The fire hall bays were too small for modern vehicles. Services were fragmented, with the police department located in a completely different building. Public meeting space was almost nonexistent.
The answer was a new building . . . one that provided ample space, brought the administrative, fire, and police departments together under one roof, and even incorporated a decorative main entry designed to reflect the community's Scandinavian heritage.
DSI helped implement the project by coordinating loan and grant financing from USDA Rural Development, together with ambitious local fundraising by the fire department. Paul Olson of DSI, who was a member of the Hendricks City Council at the time, also served on the planning committee for the construction project.
