Firefighters in Garvin, MN, are more fully protecting their community thanks to grant-writing assistance from DSI.

A $114,917 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) enabled Garvin to purchase a new 1,250 gpm tanker-pumper.

The vehicle allows them to more effectively deliver water to a fire scene. It replaced a 54-year old vehicle that was too small and worn-out to meet the local needs.

(It is important to remember that vehicles can be very difficult to obtain under this FEMA grant program. Far and away, the majority of FEMA assistance goes to help purchase personal protective gear and necessary fire equipment. It is something of a rarity to receive a vehicle under this program.)
